East Riding College Front Cover
The magazine cover for East Riding College isn’t very eye catching with the bold black ground and the boring picture that is situated in the middle of the picture. Although they have stuck to the house style colours it is very serious and it wouldn’t attract the target audience that well. Nothing on the front of the magazine would tell me what it is for a college if it didn’t have the bold masthead at the top of the page. It is a very plain and simple masthead, if it was in a different colour that worked will with black and white then maybe the magazine would look okay, but due to the fact it is not. It is a very boring front page for a magazine. There isn’t any way for the reader to contact the college because they haven’t put a college website on the page or a number a student could call if they wanted to find out any more about the college. It states on the page that the magazine is published in spring 2010, but looking at the picture on the front, I would personally say that it looks like it is for the winter term. If it was for a spring term then you would have got a nice picture of the college with the sun shining and the students smiling. Not having your back turned away from the camera and walking down an empty path. This magazine is aimed at 16-18 year olds because that is the usual age people will be when they are studying at a college. For this target audience this magazine does not fit in well with what you would want to look at if you were 16-18 year olds.

Contents Page
If you saw this page and then the front page you would not have thought that they were from the same magazine due to the fact that they do not use the same font or the same colour schemes. The negatives about this page are that there is a random use of green which immediately catches your eye, and not for the good reasons. They have not used the same font on this page, the font in the title and the font that is used to write the page numbers and the line of text besides it. Another negative would be that the widths of the border around each of the pictures are different. They should have made them all the same because in that way it would look a lot more professional. the pictures around the content box should have captions underneath them to tell you what it is that is in the picture and who it is, for example the girl with the art piece in the first picture should have a caption under is saying who she is, what it is that she is showing you and what page number you can go to look at the subject that she is modelling for. The use of ‘…’ after each line makes the whole page look very untidy and messy which could have easily been made up by more information about the course.
