Orpington College Front Page

This is the front page for the Orpington College. For a college magazine it is extremely boring, it does not have any information about the college on the front cover, there is only the date, what issue it is, the college logo and then the name of the magazine and their slogan. The colour scheme does not really work, you would have thought that they would have chosen pale blue, dark blue and white to compliment the logos colours which is the 3 house-style colours. It is a little random why they have chosen green and white. Another negative on this magazine is that they have not put on a bar code or the price on the issue, or if the magazine is free, it should let the student know that it is free. The main anchorage on the front cover is the picture of the women. . The magazine does have a masthead and it does stick to the house-style, but it is not eye catching at all and it would not reach out to their target audience.  There also is not any information about the college on the front cover, there is not a website that the reader could go and visit about the college to try and find out more information about it and about the courses that they do. There also is not a phone number that the student could ring if they wanted to get in touch with the college. The audience that this magazine is targeted at is students are 16-18, because this is the average age range that people will want to go to college. But as I said before this magazine is not going to attract the audience. I also said before there is not a price on this magazine so if the magazine was free then this may be more attractive to the audience, because if the magazine cost, then students between 16-18 years of age would not want to spend their money on a magazine that they are only going to look through about 4 times and then get rid of. If you look other college magazines they have a lot more information on it and it is a lot more eye catching and it is pleasant for the readers to look at.

The inside of the magazine does not get any better. They type face that are used are not the same, the type face that reads ‘What’s Inside?’ is not the same type face as the list that is on the left hand of the page which tells you where all of the courses are. The photo is the main anchorage on this page, what would have been better is if they put little picture on the right hand side which related to the courses on the left and then captions underneath telling you what was in the picture. At the bottom of the page there is a big gap which could have been filled in by a little description on what the course is so it will give you a little more idea before you look at the actual page. The way in which the end of the boxes on the left try and follow the shape of the picture on the right makes the page looks very untidy and very unprofessional. At the bottom of the page there is a little line that says ‘Student Magazine’ this should be on the front of the magazine because then it will let you reader know that it is for  a student, because it is not entirely made clear on the magazine.
