The masthead of The Grimsby Institute or as shown on this magazine ‘gx’ is a bold and eye catching title, it takes up most of the top of the page.  It is a good way to tell the reader what magazine it is. The grey white and blue colour scheme works well together, the follow the same colour scheme throughout the magazine; it is a house style layout. This means when they use the fame font, font size and colours throughout the entire magazine. Also the colours work well together it is pleasant for the eyes to look at. The picture in the background is still in the 3 traditional colours that run through the magazine. The picture blends in well with the text that is on the page and the models in the picture have photo shopped and filled in with block colours which is also nice for the eyes to look at. Because there isn’t that many things going on the front page it is easy for the reader to look at. The front of the magazine is very simple which is good because it has a website that the readers could visit that could open more windows for the student. It will let them look more into the college and see if the college does the courses that they are looking for. At the bottom of the page there is a slogan that says ‘the word of the street’ which tries to aim their magazine to their target audience. Although the only negative about the front of this magazine is that the Grimsby College logo isn’t that big and also isn’t that eye catching, a better place to put it would be next to the masthead.

Content Page

The first page of the content page follows the colour scheme very well, it have the 3 hours colours that was on the front page. However in the gaps between the ‘g’ and the ‘x’ is blue but on the front page it was grey. They should have stuck to the same colouring that they did on the first page.  It is a nice and simple page, very easy to read. On the first page it tells you about all of the different courses you can do at the college. So this makes the audience a lot wider because if people know that they can re-sit there GCSE’s because they didn’t do that well, then that will be a positive towards the college. Also on the second page it gives you more ways to contact the college, it now gives you a number for you to ring the college and find out more information. It also has the college logo on the bottom of the page.  On the second page of the contents it tell you about what is in the magazine, it mentions everything about college life and what might happen to the students for example – ‘Are You Skint?’ that is what some students might have happen to them. So it will give you help on your life and on your education. There is a brief little caption underneath the main line which tells you more about the topic. The only negative about the contents page is that it changes it colours, it goes from grey, white and blue to pink, white, blue, red and black. The reason why it might have changed colour is because of the pink banner in the picture at the top of the page which is eye catching and also they have placed a pink box amongst all of the pictures on the right hand on the page.
